A Quick Note on Bataille’s Anthropology and Ethnography

A pretty common critique of Bataille is that his anthropology and ethnography is inaccurate and unreliable but this not a critique, this is the point. Paul Mann takes note of this and explains that Bataille’s ethnography “is unreliable” in terms of “empirical accuracy” but it is the “scientific inadequacy” of his ethnography that produces “its real value”.[1]
